In keeping with tradition, the story of our Blossom plates begins with the discovery of a wonderful antique piece: in this instance, a vintage plate that Martina Mondadori found in her grandmother’s kitchen cabinet. The fruit plate’s floral motifs of yellow and burgundy, typical of handmade Italian ceramics, have been given a modern burst of extra colour but retain every ounce of their rustic charm. These plates are produced exclusively for in Umbria, where a small team of artisans paints each piece by hand. Typifying our ethos of collaboration with local craftspeople, each Blossom plate stands as a unique testament to the marriage of history and innovation that defines Cabana.

The D'Ascoli x Trompe L’Oeil collection is inspired by Renzo Mongiardino and the home he created in Milan for the mother of founder Martina Mondadori. The Master adored “trompe l’oeil,” the visual technique of fooling the eye with decorative painting that creates the illusion of different materials. Two themes Mongiardino returned to again and again were Marquetry - inlaid wood veneers, and Pietra Dura - inlaid stones. For Cabana, D’Ascoli has created a sumptuous layering of faux bois marquetry and faux marbre pietra dura effects printed on linen and on hand-spun, hand-woven cotton with hand embroidery.
