Artist and photographer Rudi Molacek has assembled, with an artist’s eye, an idiosyncratic collection of more than 300 Tibetan carpets, rugs, mats, seat-, bench- and saddle-covers. Between the 15th and the 20th centuries they were woven for both sacred and secular purposes by Tibetan nomads and villagers, and in the shadow of monastic centers across the Tibetan Plateau. The first volume presents Tibetan rugs intended for sitting, sleeping, meditation and horse riding, as well as those made to furnish the region’s prestigious temples and monasteries ― an expression of the relative wealth and status of their owners. The second volume focuses on a group of so-called ‘Wangden’ rural rugs, characterized by a unique weaving technique, some of which have been the subject of an illuminating exercise in radiocarbon dating to establish the antiquity of the tradition.

The D'Ascoli x Trompe L’Oeil collection is inspired by Renzo Mongiardino and the home he created in Milan for the mother of founder Martina Mondadori. The Master adored “trompe l’oeil,” the visual technique of fooling the eye with decorative painting that creates the illusion of different materials. Two themes Mongiardino returned to again and again were Marquetry - inlaid wood veneers, and Pietra Dura - inlaid stones. For Cabana, D’Ascoli has created a sumptuous layering of faux bois marquetry and faux marbre pietra dura effects printed on linen and on hand-spun, hand-woven cotton with hand embroidery.

Pair with our matching Houghton Hall Magnolia tablecloth to create a refined table setting reminiscent of this grand English stately home.
Owing to a mutual passion for interiors and true artisanal craftsmanship, together Rose, The Marchioness of Cholmondeley, and Martina Mondadori have created a tabletop collection inspired by original artefacts at Houghton Hall, North Norfolk. The collection includes table linens inspired by Rose’s 18th century hand painted silk bedroom wall covering, alongside napkins, porcelain plates and silver swans. All objects are carefully made in Italy following months of creative collaboration between the two design conspirators and friends.
